I watch..............

Tonight marks the start of the 3rd season of Game Of Thrones.  I don't know if you've ever seen it, but I absolutely love the show.
It's rather imaginative and well written; with fascinating characters and interesting plot twists.  Those of us that watch the show have waited a very long time for this 3rd season to start.
I realized something today....Game of Thrones is the only series on television that I actually watch on a regular basis. I don't watch anything on network television and I don't watch any other series on cable that isn't news related or some kind of political show.  Not with consistency anyway. I don't like the idea of watching reality television shows and I haven't seen anything else that moves me enough to watch it constantly.
I can't wait to see how this season of Game of Thrones unfolds.  Of course, if I really wanted to know, I could just read the books by George R. R. Martin. But the simple truth is that I'd prefer to just watch the series.
I do watch television everyday.  But I tend to watch a lot of news shows and The Military History Channel, ESPN, The Discovery Channel, The Food Network, Animal Planet and The History Channel.  What I do watch occasionally are Real Time with Bill Maher and Morning Joe with Joe Scarborough.
I like Bill Maher, I think he's funny as hell!!!  While I don't always agree with him, I find his wit hilarious.  I like how he doesn't always take himself too seriously and I like his passion for some topics....even though some of those topics are of things I couldn't possibly care less about.

As a matter of fact, I've been watching Bill Maher's "politically incorrect" shows for more than 20 years now.
Often I will watch Morning Joe before and as I get ready to go to work in the mornings.  I like his show because it does a pretty good job of presenting both political sides fairly evenly.
I don't always agree with Joe Scarborough, but I don't always disagree with his political views either.  To me, he acts like an adult.  He doesn't always just spit out the party line, he forms his own opinions based on his personal experience and what he considers to be logical.  He has no problem calling out members of any political party....including his own for their stupidity.

No, I don't always agree with him, but I do respect the man.
Tell me, what do you watch on television?!?

  1. Getting ready for work I'll watch BBC Breakfast. It's a enjoyable mix of news and other things. I enjoy Everybody loves Raymond, King of Queens and Frasier. I also enjoy the history channel, Aljazeera for the world news, talks and documentaries. There's a new series that began yesterday called the Village ( set in an English Village just before the war) that I thought was brilliant - I haven't sat in front the TV to enjoy a series like that in a long time so it was a nice surprise. I watch the Andrew Marr show for politics, and sometimes Question Time ( a politics panel show where the audience asks questions, and the panel often disagree.)Oh, I nearly forgot - Eastenders. Yes, if I'm watching television at all, it will probably be one of these.

    1. I see you watch a hodge podge of television shows Dawna. The Village does sound interesting.

A couple of weeks back I watched a movie on YouTube about life in England after a nuclear attack. It was made in the 80s and it was rather disturbing.

  2. I enjoy watching Diners, Drive In's and Dives an American programme with pesenter "Guy Fieri". Guy visits some of Americas most unique restaurants, tastes their popular dishes. Gotta hand it to them the Americans know how to dish large portions of tasty looking food.

"Klear TV" on sky 232 keeps me up to date with some local news from Africa, the latest African trends in ladies fashion and some good old Afro Beats.

Lately I've become accustomed to watching the cartoon network with my daughter, kid in me I love a programme called Oggy and the cocroach cracks me up...

CNN is my channel for world news and current affairs...

We get a programme over here in London called Mastermind (4 contestants battle it out to answer questions on general knowledge and specialist subject areas) my daughter enjoys the knowledge output so am encouraged to watch with her.

Another programme I watch and find rather inspiring is called University Challenge (2 teams of UK University students battle it out answering a range of questions on different subject areas). Its quite nice because I can only imagine it would boost the academic profile of each uni.

    1. I've actually watched Diners, Drive Ins and Dives many times too BareFoot Countessa. I just don't watch it often enough to even know when exactly the show comes on. I've been seeing it off and on for years.

Years ago I decided that I could go a month without eating meat.....it was hard, very hard. Halfway through that month, I saw Guy in Memphis doing a show about barbecue. Two and a half weeks later I was driving to Memphis and I ended up eating at a few of the places that he highlighted on his show.

  3. I LOVE Game of Thrones and was hooked from the moment My Love introduced me to it; naturally, he was stoked that I enjoyed it so much. Yes, it is truly well written, is captivating, and has some intense characters. ML Has read the books to date and tells me about some of the deviations between the book and the show; however, it hasn't swayed me from the series. Between Game of Thrones and The Wire, I'd say those are/were the BEST series HBO has presented.

I watch a few of the series' on SHO; however, they still do not rate as well as Game of Thrones. I DVR most everything I watch so I can watch at my convenience without the commercials; well, save for Scandal, which has be fiend out to the umpth degree!

I used to watch Oz religiously, but then one of the inmates named Adebisi raped this Italian guy......never watched it again.

  4. Reggie I'm a Game of Thrones fanatic. I love the show and love the books (well most of them) even more. The show creators say they were influenced in part by The Wire and The Sopranos and you can tell.

As far as news shows I generally watch C-Span in the morning. Every now and again I'll heck out Morning Joe but he tends to start every sentence with "Well back in 1994 when I was in Congress..."

  5. There is a show on a PBS channel here called The Aviators. I watch that without fail. It's about airplanes and piloting planes. I watch a show called Chicago Fire on NBC. It's pretty good when they stick to the firefighting but, they often go off the rails with a bunch of romantic nonsense that isn't even really romance, just annoying.

Otherwise, I watch docs on PBS and that's about hit other than occasionally catching a good film on Bounce.

Interestingly enough, lately I've been checking out old movies on YouTube. This past weekend I watched Glengarry Glen Ross on YouTube and I hadn't seen that in years.

I watch Client's List on Lifetime, I watch SOAPnet at night, Food Network/Cooking Channel, HGTV, DIY, WE...I don't currently have any premium movie channels, but I will be watching True Blood when it comes back on. I'll catch it online. A lot of TV gets by me. I am more inclined to watch movies.

  14. Reggie, John is lying! I'm telling you he loves the Real Housewives! Don't believe him when he says he doesn't, LOL!

I watch Real Housewives, I know they're not real because these women go to a hotel or a spa and you see them going ga-ga and ooohing and aaahing like they've never ever been anyplace before! You know? and I watch some documentary's like Lisa Liu'.

I love, love, looooove, watching real live trials! Oh my God I could watch all day!!! The lawyers, the prosecutors I love the whole thing. I'm currently hooked on the Jodi Arias trial.

I watch all of HLN, Jane Velez- Mitchell, Nancy Grace, Dr. Drew, Anderson, Piers, but only if they have something I'm interested in. I'll watch any crafting show, (not many on though).

At HGTV I may watch some of the decorating programs. Some cooking programs if they're cooking something I want to learn about.

And I loooove the murder stories like Snapped. Behind Mansion Walls, City Confidential, all of them. But I have to know they're true. That they actually happened.

But anyway, the thing is I just can't stand, and I don't know why, fiction stuff. Where I know someone just made it up to manipulate my senses, I just can't.

But, since I believe one should always be open to new things, I'm going to try and check the Game of Thrones out :) who knows I may like it ;p

Please Reggie, without judging me, tell me,am I crazy??? :)))

I'm convinced that Nancy Grace has horns under that hair and is sitting on a pointed tail. She's gotta be the devil incarnate.

Some of those "murder, death, kill" shows you're watching are flat out evil. In half those shows the husband did it and the other half the wife did it. That stuff is way past depressing.

      Nah.....you're not crazy.....not really.

  15. LOVE Bill Maher. I'm trying to ween myself off of Tv, only because I try to write 1000 words a day before I go to sleep and I have to actually sit down and watch tv and not have it as background noise. Don't judge- I've been watching Young & The Restless for 30 yrs now. I have Eyeopener on in the background as I get ready for work. I watch Good Times, and Martin everyday, and The Steve Harvey show. And Cnn runs while on the treadmill at the gym. I did watch the last season of The Bachelor only because there were 5 black women on there and I wanted to see howlong they would last- they ended up lasting a while, however the blonde with one arm lasted longer. That was when I stopped watching. I do watch modern family.
I watch alot of netflix- mainly the tv show Medium , while on the train ride home from work. And lots of French and Spanish movies.

I watch a lot of movies on YouTube these days.

Lets face it, life is a cesspool of bacteria! Life is a constant struggle from the moment one wakes up til the moment you go to bed and sometimes even that's a problem!

So the way I see it these shows remind me things could be worse. One could be or have been in that situation,. So I feel better about my life! :))

  20. I don't watch a lot of television. I tried the Reality shows but I couldn't take too much of that crazy drama.
My husband and I watch series like Scandal, Arrow (just catching up on that one) but we will usually wait a few a weeks then watch them so that we will have at least have three episodes to watch in a night...I can't stand weekly cliff hangers. He likes Walking Dead...I pass lol. I watch old school television shows, the only new sitcom I watch that I can think of is Big Bang Theory. And I was once a Disney Channel fan...no shame lol but the television is usually on History, Travel (Man vs Food) or Nick.

I am a big fan of True Blood and Boardwalk Empire. I've heard great things about Game of Thrones; I may just end up playing catch up and checking out the first two seasons.

I was slow but am on the Scandal bandwagon. Not sure why they have to talk so fast or why there are times where there are big breaks between one episode and the next, but it intrigues me.

I find myself looking at a lot of the You Tube shows as well. I love Between Women, Anacosta, Brothers With No Game, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl (Issa Rae), and The Unwritten Rules. Only downside is that sometimes, they have to rely on donations and outside funding to ensure there is an additional season to their shows.
