The shit we eat!!!

Yesterday while I was at work, I wandered into the break room to pour my fifth or sixth cup of coffee of the day (yeah I know that ain't healthy).  While I was in there I struck up a conversation with my friend Michelle.  I like talking to her because she's usually very pleasant, she says what she thinks and not necessarily what you want to hear, she's no nonsense and we're of the same age.  Not only is she good people, but she's actually pretty funny most of the time. While we were talking she walked over to one of the vending machines and put some money in and selected an item.  I never use those infernal machines because I try to eat half way healthy when I'm at work; and besides, work usually kills my appetite anyway. I laughed when I saw what she was getting.  She laughed too, but she said what she got was so good, she usually eats them just about everyday.  At that point I took out my cellphone and took a picture of what she was holding. That's it in that first picture.

Usually those vending machines in our break room are full of the worst kind of crap. Whether it's the drink machines or those damned "food" machines that dispense their sugar laden or fat laden crap.  Oh I'm quite sure that just about all of us eat some kind of crap. I just refuse to eat the crap that comes out of those god awful vending machines at work.

Truth be told, I absolutely love Little Debbie Swiss Cake Rolls.  I've eaten them for years.  Sure they're crap, but they're so goddamned good with a big cold glass of milk.
One day I'll stop eating them, I'm sure...........or maybe not.  Over the last few years, I've already cut most of the unhealthy crap out of my diet, this is my one guilty pleasure (that I'll admit to).

What kind of unhealthy crap do you like to eat....or drink?!?

  3. Aaron you're a better man than me, I just can't eat those things. Maybe its because I can remember watching my grandfather make them back when I was an undergraduate at Alabama State University?

I can however remember having a conversation with a beautiful young Muslim woman who admitted to me that when she was growing up that barbecued skins were her one guilty pleasure. She also told me that once her father found out and lectured and beat her for eating them. But that didn't stop her from eating them on the sly. When I asked her if she still ate them, she just smiled and said nothing.

  5. I've always been a fan of Swiss cake rolls MzE, even when I was a kid. As an adult, whenever I traveled on business and knew I'd be somewhere for more than a couple of days, I'd always put two things in the refrigerator in my hotel room, milk and Little Debbie Swiss cake rolls. They are nothing but goo and sugar, but like Pooky said in New Jack City........"they be calling me man, they be calling me".

  6. I love potato chips and a cold Pepsi! This is my favorite junk food snack. I try to hold it down to just a couple of times during the week.

I eat a piece of chocolate daily for attitude adjustment.

  7. I love Swiss Rolls myself, although I haven't had them in a while. I am a bigger fan of the Zebra cakes, although I have cut down on them significantly.

My favorite soda is Dr. Pepper, and my sports drink weakness is Orange Gatorade.

And Cheetos....Cheetos with some cold Dr. Pepper. Messy on the fingers but delicious!

  8. I'm down with the potato chips MsLadyDeborah, but I'm a Coke man, no Pepsi.

I'm not sure that I'd trust a person who didn't like chocolate.

  9. You know I've seen the Zebra cakes hundreds of times, but I don't think that I've ever tasted one before.

I like Dr. Pepper even though I cut out sodas years ago. Its rare that a sip of soda passes my lips these days.

Cheetos are the shit. An old girlfriend of mine used to always say that any man that ate Cheetos and watched porn would end up with an orange dick.

  11. Anybody's anything as long as there's real cheese melted on it: Nachos with cheese, homemade Mac N Cheese, cheesy bread, pizza (the good stuff) homemade cheese sammiches, cheese croissants, bagels n cream cheese, Kraft Macaroni and cheese, and Cheetos.

I dont discriminate when it comes to cheese, baby!
I do clear soda - sprite, 7up or generic with the hardcore cheesy crap like fake pizza, big macs and cheetos.

But "Big Az Bubba Twins" ?!? You southerners are sumptin else! LOL at the Money back guarantee! I gotta make my way down there!

  12. Oh yes Michelle, it would seem that every teenaged boy alive has a wicked appetite, that goes without saying.

One things for sure though, Oreos and a cold glass of milk go together like peanut butter and jelly.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Anna Renee a little cheese is always a good thing.....oh yes. I used to date a woman that swore by the clear liquors, she didn't mess with that brown stuff. You're the first person that I ever heard say that about soda.

  14. I don't really eat anything bad for me anymore. I've been really trying to eat good food for a while now. I suppose the only thing that I eat that may fall into the "BigAz Bubba Twins" category is scones. I LOVE scones. But fortunately really good scones are hard to find so I only eat them occasionally. But I used to eat them every day when I was less discriminating.

Oh, and as a Southerner, do you eat Moon Pies, Reggie? Lol. I used to eat them when I was a kid visiting my grandparents. I recall thinking they were too sweet even as a kid.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I've always detested moon pies Val. My grandparents used to live in Mobile when I was growing up and during the Mardi Gras parades they throw moon pies from the floats. You won't find any moon pies in my cabinets. Not one solitary moon pie Val.

  16. hand cut french fries with sour cream or ranch dressing

  17. Damn but that sounds like something that a pregnant woman would eat Budda!!! You got news for us?!?

    ReplyDelete
  18. You are right, Reggie. Those machines are filled with all the bad stuff we are supposed to stay away from, but sometimes, in the middle of the day, when it's getting close to going home, but not close enough, I takes me a trip. I usually come away with some chili cheese fritos! Damn good! It would be a man down situation if they sold Ding Dongs in that thing. Taking to a few carrots and celery, just don't have the same umph to it, ya know?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Nah it don't does it Traci?

I would like to see some healthier food sold out of our infernal vending machines Traci.

I used to work with this woman named Cleo and once when she took off her shoes and sweaty socks her feet smelled like chili fritoes. That shit was nasty as hell. It took awhile for me to get that stench out of my nose.

  20. Damn! I eat every unhealthy thing everybody mentioned...lol
I gotta do better. Since you brought up Mardi Gras, I'm gonna add that sugary-ass king cake to the equation.
Never heard of Biz Az Bubba Twins before though...looks like a round Twinkie. Yes, I eat Twinkies too.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The best king cake that I ever had came from Good Childrens Bakery in Meraux. It was absolutely delicious. I haven't had good king cake in at least 13 years.

  22. They don't have BIG AZ Bubba Twins up north! never heard of them before. Very raarely will I eat from a vending machine, but in the past I've been known to indulge in Little Debbie Donut sticks. I used to buy a box, eating two before I even get to my car. My weakness was ice cream sandwiches. I used to put one on a plate, put Nutella spread across the top of one, put another icecream sandwich on top, put whipped creme on top, and I was in heaven

    ReplyDelete
  23. Damn Daij that ice cream sandwich snack of yours sounds like the road to a very big ass.

The funny thing about it is that prior to the day that I took that picture, I hadn't heard of them either. However, yesterday and today I walked up on someone in my office eating them.

I wouldn't eat it, but if they like it, I love it.

  24. Once a year (The USC-UCLA game) I order two pizzas and pick up a bucket of KFC and a six pack of beer.
I turn of my phones, doorbell and anything else which might interupt me.
Other than that - I try to stay away from anything made not to spoil.

Think y'all will beat LSU in the rematch?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Roll Tide John!!!

What I meant to say was absolutely John and we should have won that first game. We owe LSU an ass whipping fa sho!!!

Ordinarily I would say that when Alabama plays Auburn no one had better interupt me........that would be a mistake.

Doesn't college football bring out the best in us?!?

  26. I'm the king of guilty pleasures. strangest is now and again buying a box of chocolate, large bottle of coke and cigarettes (yup! supposed to be off them all, fucked up dentals and all) and racing myself to see if I can finish the lot before bedtime. regression to zero

    ReplyDelete
  27. Canada Dry Concord Grape or Nehi Grape soda. Yes, stereotypical, I know. But a classic weakness.

    One.

    ReplyDelete
  28. My Guilty pleasures are Newports, Coca-Cola and SWEETS. I got a sweet tooth like a BITCH and I'm gonna have to get some teeth pulled because of it...but dammit, I'm only human. We all have a struggles.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Moanerplicity that Nehi Grape sounds like the business. I haven't had one of those in years.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Chrome man you've gotta give those cancer sticks up. Those things are like nails in your coffin.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wizzy Jr those Newports aren't your friend. You'd come out better smoking weed; and if you said that you smoked weed I'd have told you that you need to give those buds up too.

So many things aren't good for us, but broccoli and brussel sprouts are supposed to be good for us even though they don't taste as good as chocolate.

  32. I eat hostess cherry pies. I love them, but they are soooo bad for me. One of the ingredients on the label is BEEF FAT! I know this and I still eat them. Ugh, help me!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hostess cherry pies huh? I'd always wondered just who in the flapjack titty hell was eating Hostess cherry pies and now I know.

I love to eat cherries, but I don't ever eat them baked in anything.

  34. Got a thing for chips with loads of vinegar, salt and vinegar crisps ( there's a theme there) chocolate biscuits, monster munch, strawberry nesquik and cinnamon bagels...not great for me but...delicioso

    ReplyDelete
  35. I like salt and vinegar chips too, but I've always had more love for the barbecue ones.

That's quite a list Dawna. I guess you like what you like.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The shit I eat is salt. I try not to sprinkle any but the food is so tasteless I find myself diving into the kitchen for the salt container. My mom has removed the salt shaker from the dining----in fact from the house. She swears my intestines will shrivel up one day. I know it's unhealthy and I should stop but....OK, I'll try. Mind you I've said that a thousand times before.:)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Inez I rarely put salt in my food when I cook it, the exceptions are probably meats, rice and maybe grits....that's about it.

Salt isn't good for us, but damned if it doesn't taste exceptional sprinkled lightly on beef and chicken.

  38. I'm not much for junk food. Every once in a while I eat chocolate and that once in a while I can gobble up 5 packs of Twix Fingers and 3 cans of Sprite, Bitter Lemon or Tonic water. But that's just once in a long while. Once I ate 13 boiled eggs at a spot, my then roomie nearly screamed her stomach out when she met me at my 11th. I very much prefer cooked meals. Fries and flour products don't tease my taste buds any bit, thank God.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Inez if I ate 13 boiled eggs I wouldn't be able to stand the stench that came out of my own body. I wouldn't even consider subjecting any other living being to that same stench.

  40. My goodness, you're bringing my inner big girl, Twinkie to the surface. She likes all kinda things! Let's see, we just finished eating a giant cinnamon roll from Wal-greens then we kinda pushed it down with a multi-colored candy cane. If someone has some Twizzlers or some sunflower seeds we can get the rest of this afternoon crackin'!
Or if someone will be so kind as to get me a candy bar with caramel in it we'd be so thankful. Not to mention the sandwich cookies and if I must continue to embarrass myself, I ate at the Mexican restaurant twice last week just for the chicken nachos. Damn...no more talking to y'all....

    ReplyDelete
  41. Now Karma Eve how is it possible that you stay so thin while eating all that stuff?!?

I think I gained five or six pounds from just reading your comment.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well, just to let you know Twinkie has been eating allllllll day. I've heard sliced apples (both red & green), grapes, pineapple, strawberries, apple danish, Philly cheese steak and fries.
I just started a boot camp this week and I promise you the entire time I'm working out, I'm thinking to myself..."Can I get something to eat?"

    ReplyDelete
  43. I've got a wait problem Karma Eve, I can't wait to eat.

    ReplyDelete
  44. That is me too! I've eaten so much today my belly button has popped out! DING!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm sure that's a good look on you Karma Eve.

  46. I allow myself to eat whatever crap I want on Sunday. Yesterday I ate reese's pieces, sour patch kids and 2 mini milky ways. I instantly felt it hit;that awful gut bomb regret. I'm feeling much better today and back to eating healthy again til next weekend. ps - I like bbq chips too!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Risa BBQ chips are the bomb!!!

Today I ate three slices of pizza but I just spent a half hour on a treadmill. I hate working out, but I'm sure I'll feel better tomorrow.
