Isn't it time that we bought our troops home?!?

Well Osama Bin Laden is finally dead.
Not only is Osama Bin Laden dead; but the Korean War ended 58 years ago and World War II ended 66 years ago.  Then why can't we bring the hundreds of thousands of troops we have deployed around the world home?!?
Don't you think it's time we bought our troops and the dollars they've been spending in other countries around the world home?  Maybe they and those dollars would be more comfortable in Waco Texas or Beaufort South Carolina or Tucson Arizona or New Orleans Louisiana or Mobile Alabama or Memphis Tennessee perhaps?!?
It's way past time for the United States to bring ALL of it's soldiers home.  There is absolutely no reason why we need hundreds of thousands of American troops deployed around the world.  But maybe now that the great bogeyman is dead, maybe now is a good time.

  2. "Military Industrial Complex"
Way too much money is made supporting it.
    "The Great Boogeyman" is US.

  4. Well Reggie...
It is a good wish..but since I am on the inside looking out of the whole military thing.. It ain't gonna happen. The whole reason we are in damn near every country in the damn world is supposedly for "strategic" purposes. Where we can "react" and deploy and be anywhere in the world if something pops off in a matter of hours.. At least that is what the briefings I have seen says...But can you imagine if say Germany or Japan tried to open a military base within our borders? All Hell would break loose.

  5. war is business. shock doctrine followed by "invasion" and "occupation", requiring more weapons of increasing sophistication and increasingly larger contracts to rebuild the destruction. if the raison d'être doesn't exist manufacture one

its like these politicians get blood-thirsty the moment they get elected to high office.

  6. I would add perhaps a need for domination and oppression - plus a serious lack of trust. But Yes - I agree it's time to bring the troops home

  8. Oh yeah jjbrock, we are the great bogeyman. No one seems to want to look in the mirror for fear of what they'll see.

The emperor has no clothes, we're as naked as the day we were born.

Why is it so hard for we Americans to take a good long look in the mirror and self assess?!?

  9. Dirty Red I was waiting for you to drop that little dose of reality on my page.

My great grandmother used to always say "wish in one hand, shit in the other and just wait and see which one gets filled up the quickest".

    Damn she was smart!!!

But brother we have nuclear powered aircraft carriers and huge planes with the ability to move boatloads of shit quickly. I could see that logic 60 years ago, but not now. We can go quickly, just about everywhere. Those troops in Europe really haven't been necessary since the 70s. Think of all the money we've spent there since then.

Can you imagine how hard our own politicians would laugh themselves silly if someone decided that we needed a "no fly zone" in this country?!?

    They'd piss themselves silly laughing.

  10. We are blood thirsty Chrome and when I say us, I mean we Americans......you Brits too. We long for the bloodlust. We want blood and guts. We want to see bodies and entrails and bodies blown all to hell.....or so it would seem anyway.

  11. Dammit Dawna they need to come home today.........or shit, maybe next week.

  12. @ Reggie,I agree. I don't understand why we need to be the policemen for the entire world. I was talking to a friend who was stationed in Iraq and is due to return there in a month. I commented on my being glad about OBL's demise and I asked how it affected him and his response was that 'OBL was just the head of a franchise. There are plenty of franchise owners over there, and all we did was piss off the other franchise owners.' He added, 'if we're mad at mcdonalds and we get rid of one, that's just one, there are many many others.' I didn't know what to say. I just listened.

  14. We "need those troops strategically placed on the map". Besides, those troops are a large chunk of the economy in the places they're stationed.

  15. Daij there will always be people that hate us, we can't do jack shit about that.

What we can do is try to live in the world in such a way as to not be the bully on the block. I agree with Teddy, speak softly and carry a big stick. Sometimes it's going to be necessary to fuck someone up, the hard thing is knowing when it's time to do that and knowing when it's time to just shut the hell up.

  16. Chap we can have those troops strategically placed along our borders too. Their tax dollars can boost the economies of the towns and cities situated at or near their bases.

There was a time when it may have been necessary to keep large stores of troops overseas. We can move damned quickly now without keeping large masses of troops overseas.

    It's just not necessary.

I think we should continue to patrol the world's oceans with our carrier groups, but boots on the ground aren't always necessary. WWI was a 100 years ago, we've gotta leave those tactics where they belong.

  17. Amen!!! It's been past time. All the lives lost and families torn apart have taken so much from the men and women of our Armed Forces. President Obama needs to bring our troops HOME.

  18. You know MlvLatina, I honestly can't understand why more Americans don't see it like this.

  19. Reggie is correct, and a much needed breath of fresh air. Policies and tactics from 60+ years ago are no longer relevant.

Keep the overseas bases open, but have their respective governments manning the operations and maintenance of those bases. We don't need American troops doing those jobs, and we certainly shouldn't have to foot the bill. If our allies are ever in a jam, we have the technology to quickly ship as many troops necessary back to those foreign bases to help out.

There would be no surprise invasions thanks to modern technology. People around the world own camera cell phones and have internet access. Governments can no longer fool others with propaganda, thanks to this technology that keeps us globally informed without bias. Imagine if this technology had existed in 1939? Hitler and the Holocaust wouldn't be in the history books, I promise you that much.

Also, let's not forget that most enemies hate us because of our global military presence. These people didn't just wake-up one morning, spin a globe and randomly select a country to despise and terrorize. I doubt we would have many enemies if it weren't for our military. Isolationism? I think not. You can trade goods and offer political solutions without resorting to being the police of the world. Seriously, how long will we continue to piss on this electric fence before we realize that it is harming us?

  20. It is what it is.

I don't understand why we allow ourselves to be brainwashed into believing that we absolutely must spend so much money on defense. We spend more money than every other country in the world combined. Where are our priorities?!? I'm not an ostrich with my head in the sand, I understand that it's important for us to be strong. I want my tax dollars to go to defense........just not quite so much.

It's time we bought our troops home.

  21. Yes, it's time, but they are too busy stealing oil, so they might be a while.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'd feel better about it if we were stealing oil, but we're not smart enough to be doing that. Gas costs almost $4 a gallon, it's tripled in price since the war started.

  23. I really like to analize all the strategies and tecniques of the army...I would like to have the chance of know more about troops !

  24. Well my son will be deployed in a couple of months. If its all the same to you, I'd prefer that he stayed his ass at home.
