I love this time of year.
I like the holiday season because it's an excuse for family to come together and break bread....while watching football. Don't get it twisted, I love my Steelers and my Crimson Tide!!! Some people are fair weather fans. I proudly support my teams whether they win or lose.
I like the holiday season because it's an excuse for family to come together and break bread....while watching football. Don't get it twisted, I love my Steelers and my Crimson Tide!!! Some people are fair weather fans. I proudly support my teams whether they win or lose.
But enough about football....this post is about my love for good food.....and how much I love to cook that food.
I'm quick to say that I've got a wait problem, I can't wait to eat.......and it's true. I love to eat and I love to cook almost as much as I love to eat.
When I say that I really do love to cook, it's true and I've loved to cook for years. Over the years, I've learned to cook a slew of dishes. Some of the dishes that I enjoy cooking the most are found within this post; they are lobster macaroni and cheese, jambalaya and red beans and rice. These are some of my go to dishes. These dishes will keep you warm when there's a chill in the air.
What do you like to cook?!?
...and even if you don't like to cook, what do you like to eat?!?
...and even if you don't like to cook, what do you like to eat?!?
Some time ago I went to DaenelT's blog called "Living outside the stacks" and she had a recipe in one of her posts for something she called Homemade Potato, Corn and Shrimp Chowder. It sounded absolutely delicious and I keep thinking about it; so much so, that I'm definitely gonna make it before the year is out.
If you're not familiar with her, you should check her out and check out the recipe as well.

Tell me, what do you like to cook?!?
Oh Reggie! A husband that cooks!!!!!! OH Heaven on earth!!!! Even if its just sometimes! That's soo gooood! Bless you Reggie, and what do I like to cook? Nothing! I don't like to cook at all! I do it and have done it because I had to. Maybe that's why I hate it so. I do like to bake though. But if I didn't have to still cook for my daughter, I would live on shakes :) and sandwiches. I know, but please don't judge me.:D
ReplyDeleteI've loved to cook for years...........years.
DeleteWhen I was growing up like many sons in the south I watched my father grill meat and I couldn't wait to grill meat. Then I moved to New Orleans after I graduated from college and learned to love the food there and learned to cook a dish or two.......and learned to love cooking the food.
I know some men feel that cooking is beneath them.......and I'm one of those men that thinks that's silly as hell.
The way I feel about it, if one likes to eat, one should know how to cook :)
DeleteLove to see men cooking, absolutely love it!
I would agree.
DeleteBut that macaroni and cheese w lobster soubd yummy though!
ReplyDeleteOh it's good and fairly easy to make too DesertFlower.
DeleteHehe I really don't like cooking....but I like to eat:) *guilty smile*
ReplyDeleteLike I said, I love to cook...ALMOST as much as I love to eat.
DeleteGumbo! I love fixing a big pot of gumbo!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, that sounds good BayouCreole!!!
DeleteMake sure that there is some shrimp in it though.......and plenty of okra. Have you ever tried using chicken sausage along with andouille?!?
Man I can't cook - but I CAN eat. (Almost) Anything in the South is good. Most of my cousins live in Louisiana so all that Creole cooking has made it hard to keep off the pounds.
ReplyDeleteJohn I struggle with trying to eat healthy constantly. Especially when I love fattening foods. I love to cook AND I love to eat......and sometimes that's a problem.
DeleteI hate exercising.............but I do it.
That Lobster Mac & Cheese looks awesome ! I love New Orleans and consider them pretty much the best place in this country in terms of cuisine and culture. My mom is a great cook & taught me well. I can cook, but honestly in recent years my Fiance has taken over that primary role & I love it. I do cook for holiday gatherings, parties, entertaining, etc. But on a day to day he does most of it & he is good at it & he really enjoys it too. I love a man that can cook !
ReplyDeleteI was really surprised at how easy it was to make the lobster macaroni and cheese; and it turned out to be delicious the very first time I made it.
DeleteThere are certain things that I really like to cook. I enjoy cooking almost as much as I enjoy eating.
Hey Reggie, funny you should mention food because I just started posting about my love for experimenting with food and baking this time of year....To me there is difference in cooking vs baking. Cooking can be a chore where as baking and being creative is fun lol
ReplyDeleteI love to cook Lin..........and I really like to bake. But if you're gonna keep the food you eat interesting, you've gotta be willing to take chances and be creative.
DeleteYou just made me really hungry. Thanks. lol
ReplyDeleteHey it's what I do. I'm a big fan of eating. I can't think of anything that I'd rather be doing than stuffing my face Erica.
DeleteBlessings....Reggie.
ReplyDeleteA man who can cook....and actually does.....ok you are a keeper. I can't say that i have a favorite per say. I am a good cook and i cook fast, i don't believe in spending all day in the kitchen, forget that. I am from the Islands (Trinidad & Tobago) so Macaroni pie, Calaloo and crab, stew chicken/beef, potato salad with beets (yes beets) and for desert black cake (yeah as in black like tar).
peace.

Hmmmmm, that Trinidadian fare sounds interesting Rhapsody.
DeleteTrust my brother, its waaaaay way beyond interesting. When they eat turkey in North America they get up and then sleep, ha, in the Caribbean you lucky if you could move, some stay right by the table!
DeleteHmmmmmm, that eat til you can't move stuff does sound infinitely more interesting Rhapsody!!!!
DeleteGo to dish.. hmm.. roast salmon, brown stew or roast chicken for the meat eaters, rice n peas.. veg.. roast potatoes and a nice salad.
ReplyDeletesome Guinness punch to wash it down or a nice red wine perhaps.
I love 'stuffing' . I love to make it.. and love to eat it. I also love to dress dinner tables.. get a nice vibe going ( when time and opportunity permit). I'm accustomed to men who can cook, my dad and brothers did, exes did.. so I find men who cant or wont a little . hmmmm...... it's kinda sexy don't thy know?
Hope your doing good Reggie
I'm fine, I love to eat Dawna.
DeleteI'm forever telling people that I have a wait problem, I can't wait to eat. Roast chicken sounds delicious!! Oh and some roasted potatoes would go perfectly with the chicken and a nice glass of white wine.
Sounds yummy, Dawna
DeleteDoesn't it though!!!
DeleteI like to make my own Mata Mushroom or a really nice Greek salad with lots of Feta cheese or, now that it's winter, I have my Never-ending Soup going ... smiles ... how are you, haven't heard from you in a while, Reg ... meouw ... Love, cat.
ReplyDeleteOh now that really sounds delicious!!
DeleteI'm fine, I just haven't been feeling the blog thing lately.
This will probably be my last post.
Because I love cooking and can cook just about anything, I would stay that my personal comfort food is my baked Macaroni & Cheese. And Grilled Bratwurts. And cake. My comfort cake is my Hazelnut Fudge Marble and Pineapple Upside Down Cake. Over the weekend I was invited to a couple parties- and i'm the resident cake baker for my friends' parties- I baked a Guiness Chocolate Velvet cake and an Avocado Chocolate Chip Cake (pics on my blog), that they ate up within within about 30 minutes.
ReplyDeleteSorry you're not feeling the blogging thing. I kind of wish I hadn't started blogging, to be honest. I haven't been working on my short stories the way I used to before blogging was in vogue. I'm trying to reduce my blogging so I could focus more on my writing. I hope you'll still be reading our blogs though, and communicating
Over the years, I've loved blogging. But with the new position and move I took on a few months back, coupled with some personal issues..........I guess I don't have the time that I used to have to put into it.
DeleteI will be here from time to time...who knows, maybe sometime in the future things will change for me yet again?!?
I enjoy cooking for parties and family dinners. If it's just me, I'd rather just have a bowl of delicious oatmeal.
ReplyDeleteI host Christmas each year that I'm healthy. This year I'll be making a BBQ pork roast, baked beans, potato salad, and two Dutch apple pies.
*Macaroni and cheese is my go to comfort food. Mmm!!
It's the truly simple things in life that most of us enjoy MlvLatina.
DeleteYour menu sounds like the business!!!
Thank you Reggie!
DeleteYou're welcome..........and that food does sound like the business.

Now why would I want to do that?!?
DeleteI love homemade mac and cheese, and I love to make it. I also like to make cornbread dressing, homemade chili, baked beans...so many things!
ReplyDeleteI also like to bake homemade pies and cakes, but I haven't had a lot of time to do those this year.
Great seeing you around. I finally got around to posting a new entry.
Oh yeah, that's the Mississippi in you No Labels. That's that "soulfood comes from the heart" stuff right there!!!!
DeleteFor some reason, we don't eat homecooking on Christmas. We usually go to the casino on Christmas, so we tend to eat the buffet or whatever else our taste buds prefer. But I guess if we did prepare meals...my go-to dish is homemade macaroni & cheese. My grand mom taught me how to make it. I learned well.
ReplyDeleteNow that's an idea I like Don. The thought of going to a casino and eating off the buffet sounds good to me. That way there isn't a lot of leftovers and a big holiday clean up. I could seriously do that.
DeleteI think that everyone's grandmother's macaroni and cheese is probably the best they've ever eaten.
Blessings and Merry Christmas to you and yours. May this season of love be the season that runs through you, your home, your family throughout the year.
ReplyDeletepeace.
Merry Christmas to you and the family! May your Christmas be filled with everything you wished for, but most of all with love, health, peace and joy!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!!!
DeleteIt's that time of year, one more day of feasting left. I like to cook and share cooking with my spouse. I love grilling meat, even in the snow of Wisconsin...
ReplyDeleteI hope your Christmas was Merry, and your New Year better then the last...

ReplyDeleteWhere you been? You scarce like salt-fish in Trinidad. I guess life happens and some things at times take a back seat. Well, as long as you happy, healthy and loved is all good.
peace...have a good one.
Peace.
DeleteSir Reggie! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteResurrected the blog and started over again. build and destroy, then build again .. I know, madness. I hope there is a method to it.
