I'm a bit of a nomad.

Before anyone gives me any grief.........I know I haven't been online much lately.

Just like all of you, I'm dealing with this thing called life as best as I can......and lately it's been kicking my ass!!!!

For the last eight years, I've been living in the state of South Carolina.
But I've always been a bit of a nomad, so when an opportunity to move to the state of Florida came my way recently, I jumped on it.
So this coming weekend....I'll be moving to the sunshine state.

When I said I was a bit of a nomad....I only say that because so far I've lived in California, Mississippi, New York, Alabama, Louisiana, New Jersey....and for the next few days, South Carolina.

I'm definitely gonna miss the shrimp and grits!!!

I know people that have lived in the same city for their entire lives and I've lived all over the country.  I can't say that I'll always stay in Florida.......who knows where life's journey will take me next?!?

Where do you live?!? Where have you lived?!? Are you a bit of a nomad too?!?

    1. I wanted to be blogging Dawna. Ya know, since I started blogging seven or eight years ago, this was the longest that I had gone without posting something. For a minute there.........I almost left it at that and didn't come back. I was thinking about that....but I guess I'm not there just yet.

  2. Congrats on your move!! I am looking to make a big move myself. I have lived in Louisiana, Texas, California. I've stayed in Georgia and Maryland for extended periods of time. I loved southern Cali the most. I am looking to stay in the south though. I am a true Southern girl. Hope your move goes smoothly!!

    1. Thanks Kenda

As a matter of fact, I was born in Southern California. I still have a whole boatload of family out that way.

  3. Always been a New Yorker, or existed in parts nearby w/in the tristate (NY, NJ, CT) area.

Florida, eh? The Sunshine State… Lots of pretty people, though I hear it gets mad HUMID down there. Enjoy the new digs, bruh.

Just please don’t dare go Skittle shopping, at night, wearing a hoodie...

    Smell me?

    1. There was a time when I liked being a New Yorker myself....now my old bones don't have much love for those harsh winters.

It's humid as hell here in South Carolina......almost as humid as it was when I lived in the New Orleans area. Oh yes, it's humid as hell in Florida too.

I might have to buy my own gun.....or just stay the hell away from Sanford I suppose.

  7. Yay, congratulations, Reggie! Take pictures of alligators!
I lived in Romania until I was 26, and now I live in Canada, but I can't say I'm a nomad, because I hate the process of moving. Maybe if I had lots and lots of money so I could take care of all the packing and moving with just a few phone calls. However, I think it's good to have a big move like this at least once in a lifetime, because you learn so much!

    1. Freesia I hate to move too, I absolutely hate it........but I do like going to and exploring new places. That is the fun part.

By the way, there are plenty of alligators here where I live now. I guess I've gotten used to seeing them because there were plenty in Louisiana too. Still there's nothing quite as tasty as alligator sausage or even a nice alligator sausage gumbo.........or maybe some fried alligator. It's all good.

  8. Reggie nice to see you back on the radar.

Sounds like beautiful beginnings for you reggie, am sure the new change will be fabulous. First time I went to florida was amazing, everything seemed so extravagant very different to London.

I have lived in London most of my life but occassionally I like to travel around england so that gives me a perspective on how the other half live.

I think that traveling gives everyone a different perspective and it helps to open minds.

  9. Reggie,
About that..I hit the wrong key...anyways... I have lived in NC,NY,MD,Germany, TX and now WA. I am an east coast dude from the rooter to the tooter but I loved living in Dallas. When I retire I am moving back there. If not Dallas then Austin. I am not a Nomad though. It is always been my job telling me to hop all over the damn world. I have never had a choice in the matter.

    1. I've been to most of these United States.......or at least through them. I like Dallas too, but I think that I prefer San Antonio or Houston to Dallas.

  10. Ick SC..... My entire family is from there, though I am from NJ, AND I am a graduate of "State." Moreso than asking why you would want to move to FL... I assume to leave SC.... Why did you live in SC in the 1st place???? And Where?

I'm looking forward to living in Florida.

  11. Pacific Northwest my entire life...Washington, Alaska, and Oregon. Currently in Washington and love my little slice of heaven on the coast!

Yes, I'm also a nomad - I love travelling so as to see new things, different landscapes and scenery, and trying different types of food! I'll even chase a storm, here and there...

  12. I've lived in 7 States and a bunch of cities. And I'm probably going to make another move soon. I guess I've just always had ants in my pants.

So, Florida. Interesting. I like Key West. I hope you and the wife enjoy it. Keep us posted. And, Godspeed with the move.

I actually moved all my furniture last weekend, so that part is done. I haven't even moved their yet and I'm already wondering if this will be my last stop.....or destiny will take me some other place before my life's ride ends.

  14. Congratulations on the move Reg! When I was a refugee (lol) I lived in Florida for about 4 months...Jacksonville, Florida. I liked it. I've lived in a few other places although, if I could, I'd go back to San Diego in a heartbeat. I loved living there. But then, I'd have the same problem I had the first time wouldn't I? I'd miss New Orleans. I guess my ass will push up daisies here.

    1. Although I was born in Southern California and I lived out there for five years, I haven't been back since. I've been on the east coast or somewhere close for most of my life. One of these days, I'm gonna have to get back there.

Now that my daughter has graduated from college and my son on the verge of following....I'm mobile.

  16. Reggie I've been in the Jacksonville area for almost six years and all I can say it's not a place that I would ever call home. To tell the truth It's kind of depressing for me seeing all the poverty here is so overwhelming.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You know Ann there have been varying levels of poverty everywhere I've lived. I think that the worst I'd seen was in New Orleans, but it wasn't much better in a couple of the other places I've been.

When politicians talk about the poor, they speak as if they're talking about someone that lives in some other place.....and not just those people living a few blocks or a few miles away.

Education cures poverty...........so why do we continue to cut education in our budgets?!?

  17. You're a brave man Reggie. Florida is an exciting place to be lately. Say hi to LeBron for me lol.

I've lived in Ohio all my life. I'm looking to relocate next year. I want to move to Alaska, but that is probably not going to happen. I need to be in a place with little to no humidity and consistent climate.

Mucho suerte (much luck) on your move!!

    1. I don't think I'm so brave Mlvlatina.........I just don't mind traveling. Now the moving part, I hate moving. The thought of picking up all my crap and moving it somewhere else is depressing.

I like Ohio. I took my family to Cedar Point years ago when my children were pre-teens.........they loved it. The wife loved it too.

  19. Reggie, congratulations on your journey! It's interesting. I hear people who have lived in FL for a long period of time say they are ready to go somewhere else and others who like it once they get down there.

As for me, I lived in MS most of life until 2001. (There were a few months where I lived in Harlem, NY and Richmond, VA for internship opportunities) After that, I moved to Decatur, GA, but left there in 2003 to live in NJ. The full story is in one of my earlier blog entries...

I've lived in NJ since 2003, first in Hightstown, then having to relocate to Trenton in 2008. However, I do miss the South, and want to move back.

By the way, I've been through Ohio many times. I remember taking my children on a memorable trip to Cedar Point once.....that was a lot of fun.

One of my cousins was stationed in Alaska with her husband, she said she really enjoyed it.

    2. Cedar Point is one of the coolest amusement parks I've ever been to, even though I'm not a fan of them.

I've heard good things and bad things about living in Alaska, I'm excited to visit and see for myself.
