I went to see a movie.

Last night I went to see Pacific Rim.  I really enjoyed the movie, I thought it was awesome!!  You may not know it by reading my blog posts, but I'm really just a big kid at heart.
Growing up I loved seeing those old movies with someone in a big rubber monster suit.  Truth be told, I've probably seen every Godzilla and Gamera movie at least five times.
Last month, I did see Man of Steel. I really enjoyed it as well.  Some people go to the movies to be wowed by Hollywood.  Me, I'm just looking for a two hour distraction that doesn't make me regret spending my admission..........and the price of popcorn and jujubees on.  I liked this Superman movie, but I liked the last one too.  I'm a big fan of the superhero genre of movies......don't tell anyone, I'm trying to be all hard and whatnot....and be a dork as well.
What type of movies do you like?!? What's the last good movie that you saw?!?

  1. Well, as you may recall from some of my posts, I enjoy coming of age flicks. I also enjoy films set in New York City. Which means I absolutely love coming of age films set in New York.

As for superhero films. Well, I'm not really a fan of films where I have to suspend belief. Of all the superhero/ comic book hero films, I've only seen two in their entirety. And, those are Meteor Man starring Robert Townsend and Blankman starring Damon Wayans. Lol. Have you seen those? Meteor Man is hilarious!

    1. Well yes, as you know I'm a big fan of your blog and yes I did pick up on your love of those coming of age flicks.

Some of them sound quite interesting.

Yes I remember Meteor Man and Blankman......blank stare on Blankman.

    2. I'm not a huge sci-fi fan, Reggie but, since you are, have you seen these three? I really liked all of them.

      - Contact starring Jodie Foster
      - Enemy Mine starring Louis Gossett, Jr.
      - Brother From Another Planet starring Joe Morton

      Have you seen these?

    3. Yes I have Val, I've seen all of them. Of the three I actually enjoyed Enemy Mine the most.

    4. Yeah, that was a really unique kind of film.

    5. I have seen a couple of movies over the last few years that you've talked about on your blog Val.

What's the name of that movie about the Indian lady in South Africa?!? Who ends up falling in love with another woman?!? I would like to see that one.

    6. It's called, The World Unseen, and it's on Netflix. I hope you enjoy it

    7. That's the one, I'm gonna make it a point to see that one Val.

  2. Im with you! I am not looking for the meaning of life during a movie...it is pure entertainment. Super Hero and Mob Flicks are my fave though I enjoy a good tearjerker every now and then

    1. I feel you, I like movies Tarsha. There are times though that I get frustrated at Hollywood because they seem to "redo" the same stuff again and again. There are some movies that I feel shouldn't be remade.

  3. Greetings, my friend ... just stopping by to say Hello ... haven't watched any movies in years, maybe the occasional IMAX presentation ... I tend to fall asleep as soon as I sit down ... mmh :( Be well, eh? Having a good summer so far? Love, cat.

    1. Greeting....please stop by anytime.

I am enjoying my summer. I love movies and there is something about going to the movie theatre and grabbing some popcorn and Raisinets that excites me.

  4. I'm a sci-fi fan. But I like the girly dramas to. All in all, the writing and plotlines have to be very tight. As long as that's stellar, I'm good!

  5. I liked the movie. I've only seen the the first Iron man. I don't do sequels. I like originality, and Pacific Rim was very unique. I'm a fan of dramas, and chick flicks per se, but love stories. I'm a fan of psychological thrillers, and kafkaesque movies, and those comedy en noirs. I have seen every Guillermo Del Toro movie. I prefer those movies with predominantly black casts, no matter the genre. I love French, Spanish, Italian, Thai, and Persian movies. My friends would say I'm not a good judge of movies because I tend to like movies they hate.

    1. I really liked it too Daij. I don't mind sequels, though I would like for them to actually be good. Ironman III was actually pretty good. I enjoyed the latest Batman trilogy, but the first series of Batman movies from the 80s and 90s sucked after the initial movie. That first one was good.

I would like to see more of US in the films I see. Idris Elba was particularly good in Pacific Rim.

  6. Glad you enjoyed the movie. I haven't been to the movies all summer. Crazy! My husband is huge movie buff. We watch a lot of movies through Netflix. Our favorites are Korean films. Lots of subtitles to read, but worth it because they're really good. I Saw the Devil is good, also Old Boy and War of Arrows.

    1. Interesting Brandi. I started watching War of Arrows after reading this. I'm only been watching 20 minutes of it, but it's interesting so far.

Thanks for the heads up. How did you get into Korean films?

    1. Serenity I've sat through many a girly girl movie.....can't say that I liked very many of them. But one or two did surprise me.

I always liked action and sci-fi, the wife always went in for the types of movies you like.

Still there have been some times over the years when I was surprised and ended up liking the movie more than she did.

I opted out of the 3D experience.....and the IMAX.

  8. I pretty much love all Superhero movies...well, I didn't really like "Thor" or the first "Incredible Hulk" remake, but I pretty much enjoy superhero movies. I actually enjoyed Thor in "The Avengers" though.

We are avid moviegoers at my house and earn free movies throughout the year. Believe it or not, I will not pay to watch a chick flick or love stories at the theater. I'm just not interested in seeing chick flicks on the big screen. The only chick flick that I even own is "The Devil Wears Prada" (loved that movie). I like action movies, animation movies and comedy (not all comedy though). lol

We haven't seen "Pacific Rim" yet...it's on our movie list though. We did see "Man of Steel" and I loved it!

    1. I didn't dislike Thor or either of the Hulk movies, though I probably enjoyed the seocnd Hulk movie more than the first.

I have The Devil Wears Prada in hardback on one of my book shelves. It's actually my wife's book, not mine.

    2. Loved the 2nd Hulk movie...the 1st remake not so much. And Thor was just straight up boring to me until the end.

    3. I must admit.....it took a lot of patience to watch Thor.

  9. Sounds like you had fun Reggie. Used to love the old superman films. Haven't seen Man of Steel yet but if it's anything to go by am sure I'll enjoy this remake.

    1. Yeah I really liked Man of Steel. It was a lot more violent than any of the other Superman movies they've made. These days they're making both Batman and Superman darker characters I suppose.

I enjoyed the first Superman movie that Christopher Reeves made and the second one. But the third and fourth Superman films really sucked.

  11. I don't like movies very much, but I'll watch some once in a while...I prefer to read. If I must wear a label, it would be one of a sci-fi fan since my favourite movies are almost all sci-fi. Top three, in no particular order:
    Time Bandits
BladeRunner (the one re-issued in the early 90s, where the narration / voice-over was removed)
    TRON (the original one)

I remember Enemy Mine...that was a decent movie, too.

    1. Of course, since I'm a bit of a dork, I've seen all of the movies you've mentioned. Blade Runner is classic American sci-fi at it's best.

    1. Perhaps you didn't take the time to actually read this post, but it's not about Trayvon Martin. If I had wanted to post a blog about that topic, I would have. As it is, I chose not to.

What I will say is this, you sir are a coward!!!

Wrapping yourself in the Anonymous cloak in order to make this comment. If you truly believed what you say you believe above, then you'd come out in the open and do so.

Keyboard courage is something, isn't it?!? You would be terrified to say something like that to me face to face. You'd probably piss your pants.

    2. Nah, Reg... Anon. was just letting you know that he likes fantasy films - his Favorite being, "America is a WHITE MAN's Country".

      But as for me?
I have yet to see Pacific Rim - although I like the genre.
Back in the day I'd watch "Giant Robot" and any other Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, Ghidorah,etc... movie.

    3. I've been online and blogging for almost a decade now and I have NEVER posted an anonymous comment on anyone's blog. If there is something that I have to say, I simply say it.

I refuse to apologize for my opinions; and while I do grow as a human being and sometimes my opinions change....I will be heard. I must admit that there are times that I make light of some things and other times joke about things to excess. I never mean to hurt anyone's feelings and I am not a spiteful person.

I never cease to be amazed though at the outright cowardice exhibited by so many of the people in the online community.

I have been a fan of Godzilla movies for as long as I can remember. I've seen all of them multiple times and yet if I am turning channels and one of them is on, then in all likelihood, I will watch it.

  13. The last movie I saw was that movie with Will Smith and his son. I thought it was OK. The wifey didn't like it..but to me it was watchable. I usually go for SCIFI movies. I like action movies also..but SCIFI is my shit. and anything that deals with magic, Gods angels and vampires. shit like that. I guess I am a nerd at heart.

Ya know I meant to watch that movie with Will and his son, but it just slipped my mind. It looked kinda interesting.

My wife doesn't like SciFi either. As a matter of fact, when I usually see a SciFi movie, I usually see it by myself. My wife won't even go.

  14. I am a big fan of horror movies, although I haven't seen one lately that is worth my going out to the movies. I have been waiting until it comes out on video or Netflix.

I also like action movies, some comedy movies, and inspirational flicks. I like documentaries but I'm usually not one that will go to a theater to see them.

However, certain action movies can wait until they come to video. Like Bullet to the Head (which I agreed to go see because the Sweetie is drawn to movies with Stallone as well as Jean Claude Van Damme)...I did a review to show my disdain for it.

The last movie I saw in the theater was Ironman 3. (jots down to do a review on it) It had lots of great excitement but it didn't have the zest like the other two before it.

I'm glad you had a great movie day!

  17. Reg, I think the last movie I saw that I actually enjoyed was Star Trek. Although, Man of Steel was pretty good too...but, I liked Star Trek more for some reason. I like all sorts of movies but, I can't do horror movies. I'm still a scardy cat and would sleep with the lights on for a year if I watched one.

    1. Ya know, I'm pretty much a dork by nature BayouCreole; but I wasn't particularly impressed with the first Star Trek they made a few years back. That, I suppose, is why I didn't go see the one that came out earlier this year.

I don't do horror movies either. I'm not afraid of them, I'm just not moved by them. I don't want to see anything hacked up. I don't want to see any effeminate looking vampires. I don't even want to think about zombies; and I really don't want to see anything about ghosts. The last ghost movie that I think that I saw at the movies was Ghostbusters.

  18. I haven't heard of that movie and I have yet to see Man of Steel, my husband and son saw it for my son's birthday though. I like some comedy movies but I often enjoy sci-fiction fantasy type movies. I even enjoyed those Harry Potter Movies...*holding head down* yes I like I'm grown and liked it lol somewhat...but I even write sci-fi fantasy on the side but the stories have yet to see the light of day.
