Hate is as American as apple pie!!!

When are we gonna just go ahead and acknowledge that hate is as American as apple pie?!?

Is it just me or does it seem that hate is everywhere?!?
It seems to me that most of America hates somebody.  Maybe that's why violence is so prevalent in our society?!?
Maybe that's why there is a love affair with guns and all kinds of other weapons in this country; and maybe that's why we're no longer shocked by the extreme level of violence that goes on here on a fairly regular basis?!?
There are perfectly good reasons to hate people.  But I refuse to hate anyone based on their race, gender, religious preferences or sexual orientation.  How does one hate someone they've never actually met before?!? What about the tens of milions of people that hate other people simply because they don't like who they choose to love?!?  What kind of insanity is that?!? Why would someone care what goes on in someone else's home?!? Isn't being an American supposed to be about choice?!?
I know that there are millions of Americans out there that hate me and people that look like me simply because of my permanent suntan.  Many others out there that look like me, hate millions of other Americans simply because they don't look like them.  Oh and this isn't just a black and white issue, it's everyone else as well.  Every race in this country is just as guilty as the next.
There are millions of people in this country that despise other Americans because they don't worship the same God or share the same religious beliefs. They call themselves good Christians or whatever religion they worship, yet their hearts are filled with hate.
It's not just Americans, it's all over the world. Whether you're talking about Jews and Arabs or Indians and Pakastanis or Chinese and Japanese or the English and the Irish.
Maybe hate is entrenched in our DNA?!? Even though hate goes on around the world, sometimes I get the feeling that it's been perfected here in America. I, for one, refuse to hate other people.
If you promise not to hate me, I'd promise not to hate you. However, if you chose to hate me, I still wouldn't hate you. Hate takes too much effort; and I for one am not interested in making that effort.
What I do know is that someone is teaching their children to hate other people.  If that weren't so, then there wouldn't be so much hate here in the first place.

  1. That last picture is both scary and sad. When my son was born, I think my heart felt true fear for the first time. I don't understand this kind of hate or intolerance.

    1. Isn't it though DaenelT?!? When I think of Klansmen I'm thinking of some toothless, no shoe wearing, ignorant backwards thinking dullard. Who wants to sentence their child to that?!?

    2. When I taught American history at the college, my students were always stunned to see women and babies caught up in the hate.

  2. Your last statement is so true! It is so sad, but true. Hate in America is at an all-time high, worse than i've ever known or experienced.

    1. It's truly sad Mizrepresent because one would think that the more advanced our society becomes, that knowledge and logic would supercede such petty distractions.

  3. I dont live in America, but I hear all about the hate and it makes me shiver. I ςªŋ't imagine what it'd be like going about everyday being defensive and hyper vigilant. Here in Nigeria, the violence with the muslims is creating hate against them. It has always been believed that muslims are violent people and they're confirming it with all the unnecessary suicide bombings going on.

I don't like to talk about hate but one thing is for sure. People will always hate. They will find reasons to do so. I do believe that anyone who hates must not love himself much because hate saps energy and leaves one drained. Nursing hate makes one sick physically, emotionally and mentally. If one truly loves oneself one would not want this sort of disease.

The bible says that we should love our neighbor as our self. It means then that you ςªŋ't love your neighbor unless you love yourself first.

I know a number of times I've held back from retaliating because it'd hurt me too. And how I've forgiven because I couldn't be bothered with the headache of nursing a grudge. I love myself too much for that.

    1. That's rather profound Inez. It's just too bad that more people don't feel the same way.

Violence and hate are everywhere in this world. It just seems that it's more so here than anywhere else. It's possible that I feel that way because I live here, but I don't really think so.

  4. There is a lot of violence in our religious texts... what I think humanity needs to do is to begin to exercise common sense. I have an intense dislike ( hatred?)of hatred.. the acts that one would do to another..

I don't plan on acting on it.
As people we feel and experience many emotions.. we don't have to act on them all.

    1. Ahhhh Dawna, so you're saying that you hate, hate?!? Interesting that you point out that our religious texts are filled with violence....because yes they are.

There probably have been more people killed over the years for "religious" reasons, than anything else.

    2. Co-signing on this statement! Religious texts are the main motivators for the most extreme acts of violence of all time.

  5. Hate maybe as "American as apple-pie", but that' because it's as easy as pie. To point fingers and belittle and curse and sometimes resort to violence against others because they are different in one way or more is so much easier than recognizing the limitations or faults of one's own life and trying to correct that.

But what I find really disconcerting is not the pictures of the KKK and militia organizations white or black or Jewish, but the quiet bigotry of ordinary people who will forget the words of MLK, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere," and just go about their business while children are being shot for wearing a hoodie and carrying a bag of skittles and the lives of others are being determined for the price of a chicken sandwich.

    1. It does seem to be a lot easier to hate someone than to extend a hand to them Curious.

Now as far as supporting businesses whose owners espouse "unAmerican" values is concerned; we as consumers can choose to spend our dollars wherever we see fit. I, for one, have been known to hold a grudge.

I don't know if you remember the furor from the 80s over racist comments made by the leadership at Texaco? But I haven't stopped at a Texaco since then. I would run out of gas before buying a drop of their Texas tea. I have passed by their stations in the past with the gas light blinking in my car. If others stop there and buy gas, I understand that they have a right to do so.

Currently I live in South Carolina. A decade ago there was a "controversy" in a chain of barbecue restaurants in Columbia called Maurice's Barbecue stemming from the owner of those restaurants displaying the Confederate battle flag. When he was interviewed and asked to take it down he said that he supports the ideals of the old south and the Klan. Well my daughter is currently a student at USC and when I go see her (like I did yesterday) I will pass at least one of those restaurants. As much as I love good 'cue, I would never spend a dime there. I don't begrudge the people that will. It's their right as Americans to do so. We all have freedom of choice and I would hope that all of us would exercise that freedom.

If you read my blog on a regular basis....and you've commented more than a few times so I know you do; then you'll know, that I have written more than a few posts supporting my gay brothers and sisters. I say that because like everyone else, I have gay family members and I wouldn't want to see them treated any differently than anyone else. I have gay friends and they are good people. Whether its marriage or any other rights that some of the ignorant people in this country would seek to deny them. It's supposed to be a nation built on rights and freedoms, but we both know that there are times when that seems like absolute bullshit.

As far as Chick Fil A and their founder is concerned; although I don't agree with his stance in the least, I believe he has a right to do business. But I can also understand why there are people that wouldn't frequent their establishment.........though they do make a damned good chicken sandwich.

    2. BayouCreole I can also understand why people would be frustrated by what comes out of S. Truett Cathy's mouth.

    3. Yeah, I feel ya on that. I can understand why as well.

    4. You would think that people that own a business would understand that all people are potential customers. You would think that when they're out and about and they open their mouths that they'd remember that. I respect the part where he has a right to his opinion, but maybe someone needs to explain to him that there are ramifications to getting diarrhea of the mouth when you rely on the public to put a dollar in your pocket.

    5. You know, Chick Fil A has a right to say whatever he wants, and he has a right to expect protest from those who he violates with his words. If he can accept that hate mongering brings hate, then all comes out in the wash. Less business for him.
And maybe that's as it should be. I don't want to spend a red cent in a place that offends me and mine (and mine are a broad range of folks)and as soon as I find out that offense is going on, I'm out the door.

I can make my own gotdamn chicken sandwich, and it'll taste better too. The time is near for black folks to come together over national, ideological, sex oriented, and every other boundary. This has been my sermon for a long damn time, and I think it's time to step back up on the soapbox.
And no, I'm not racist, reverse racist, or any kind of racist. I'm pro-black. And pro-humanity. I love everybody, dammit! I deal with all races who are pro-humanity. I live this love life all day.

I'm just ranting Reggie. There is too doggone much hate out there. But do you know when Pres Obama was elected, white folks were dancing in the streets of Berkeley? White folks are T.I.R.E.D. of the hatred. They are NOT the devil that some folks want to make them out to be. They are the manipulated. I know a whole lotta REAL white folks!!

But you know what? Their fears gets manipulated into racism and hate all day by the powers that be who benefit from the racism buffer they create using white people. They don't care about white people. White racism works for the benefit of the 1%. Whites are made into modern day overseers, without realizing it. And nowdays, the pay is far less. In fact, middle class whites might lose their homes in this economy.

We black and white folks need to stop being the stooges for the rich.
      *end of rant*

    6. I think the owners of Chick Fil A have a sound strategy, and should take it one step further by openly catering to straight white families. I love going to a restaurant and not seeing any blacks with their pants hanging off their asses, not seeing any mexican thugs, not seeing any faggots drooling all over each other and trying to offend me. I just like to sit down to a nice chicken sandwich lunch and let my kids play in the indoor park. It's refreshing compared to the TNB that is expected so many other places.

    7. Now Anna Renee you know damned well that you don't have to apologize at Reggie's Rantings for ranting. That's what this blog is for.

Hell half the time when I'm ranting here I'm just pulling it straight outta my ass.

I want you and everyone who drops by this blog to say what you mean and mean what you say. Purging our systems of anger and frustration by ranting is a good thing.

There is a lot of hate out there, which is why I chose this particular post. I don't have time to hate anyone. I try and see the good in everyone, whether there is any actual good or not. We may all hold various opinions about anything to everything, but I would hope that hate doesn't drive anyone's opinion around me.

Oh and if you can make a chicken sandwich better than theirs.......you can send one or two over here.

I don't mind you voicing your opinion; however, I would prefer that you didn't use hate speech in my blog. I welcome all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds. Everyone's opinion is respected here.

But please, don't be an asshole, it's just unnecessary.

    1. I think what he said was rather profound also Moanerplicity. I think that injustice has to be defined by the individual. It's only the individual that can put it in their own context. It's the individual that chooses to spend their dollar.

Although I don't agree with S. Truett Cathy, I do believe that he thinks he's right.

One hundred and fifty years ago when the south rebelled against the Union, many of them sited God given rights and how God was on their side. While those in the north believed that God was truly on their side. What I've learned is that when someone starts talking about religion, hypocrisy soon follows.......from somewhere.

He's gotta be a socialist. He's gotta be born in Kenya. He's gotta have so much love for the Muslims that he won't prosecute our wars in the Middle East. He's gotta hate white people. He's a Muslim.

I sit back sometimes and laugh at how ignorant some people are. Those people that just won't come out and say that they hate him because he's a man of color.

  12. This country was founded on hatred so it's really of no surprise that it's become the backbone of the society. This one hates that one; that one hates this one and sadly so much of the hatred is unfounded and perpetuated solely on ignorance and stupidity. This country has so few people that are truly of one race and in its bloodline and blonde hair and blue eyes is actually NOT a sign of superiority, but instead, a deficiency. Anyone who's done any study in genetics will know that blonde hair and blue eyes is the result of a lack of melatonin. Blonde hair can be dyed to any colour while black cannot. In order to dye black hair a lighter colour, it has to be bleached/stropped first. Black skin only get darker not lighter; while white skin burns first and then gets darker if it darkens as all.

Science facts aside, there's not much I can add that hasn't already been said, but Bob Fairlane and your reply Reggie, punctuate it all.

  13. Yes, it is so easy to spew hate and ignorance but hard to talk about love and knowledge. Unfortunately, in society, it has become too accepted to hear ignorance and see it; it's like we don't really react to it anymore. On the things people think are racist, which may not be at all, society tends to overreact to. We are definitely backwards; we are prudish towards sex but high paid whores when it comes to violence. What's up with that?
