Who is Reggie?!?

My name is Reggie. I've been on Blogger for about 4 months now. Prior to coming to Blogger, I blogged on Yahoo 360. I came to Blogger because some of the people that I used to blog with there, now blog here. Of course, the main reason that I came here though is because the site I was blogging on was shut down. While I've already written several blogs here on Blogger and been fortunate enough to interact with many fine intelligent people; I realize that many of you out there know next to nothing about me. Given the nature of the Internet, that's not always such a bad thing. But there are some things about myself that I'd be happy to share with all of you. But before I get into all of that and bare my ass to the world; let me say that the reason that I call myself "Reggie" is because that's actually my name. Well to be specific, it's actually Reginald, but everyone that knows me calls me Reggie. The only time anyone ever calls me Reginald is when my mother does it and she only does it when she is pissed off at me; and she's got a particular way of doing it that to me sounds like fingernails running across a chalkboard. Also, I call myself Reggie because I wasn't smart enough to come up with some witty Internet "nom de guerre". Because the simple fact of the matter is that I was never too sophisticated; with me, it is what it is.

  • First of all, I'm highly opinionated and I make no apologies for that.
  • Secondly I have strong political views, though I consider myself neither Republican or Democrat. I've always considered myself a moderate. Some of my political leanings have been considered to be conservative by some; while some of my other political leanings are found to be liberal by others. As far as I'm concerned, their opinions and .75 will get them a copy of USA Today out of the CVS down the street.
  • I love my wife.
  • My eyes are hazel and they've been hazel since the day I was born.
  • I am 6'2 (that seems to surprise people for some reason)
  • I don't generally drink; although I do so love a good scotch and I did drink some homemade sangria the day I posted this. But generally, I don't drink and I haven't in years.
  • I love to cook.
  • I've never smoked cigarettes; but I do so love the taste of a good cigar, even though I haven't consistently smoked cigars in years.
  • I am a complete and utter dork. I like science fiction and I make no apologies for that.
  • I think that men that hit women are losers and not worth more than two dead flies.
  • I consider myself to be very patriotic; which may stem from the fact that I was an Air Force brat. My father was a commissioned officer and a graduate of Tuskegee Institute (now University), so I grew up on Air Force bases.
  • My son enlisted in the South Carolina Army National Guard upon graduating from high school last year and I couldn't have been prouder.
  • I was actually named after my father's roommate at Tuskegee and a great uncle of mine that spent more than 30 years in the United States Army.
  • Although I consider myself patriotic, I believe that the wars that our government are currently prosecuting in Iraq and Afghanistan are a mistake. I also believe that the casualties there from our troops and the locals are a shame and should be considered a national scandal; particularly since the war in Iraq was started based on a lie.
  • I think that President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney are oxygen thieves and I believe that both of them should be ashamed to show their faces in public given what they did to this nation over their eight years in office.
  • I think that for the most part, that the American people are like cattle and that Americans aren't deep thinkers.
  • I am a graduate of Alabama State University. I graduated a couple of decades ago with a BS degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing.
  • I am a resident of Charleston, South Carolina.
  • I'm an avid reader. I've read hundreds of books in my life and I plan on reading hundreds more before I take that extended dirt nap that is in all of our futures. My favorite authors are Bernard Cornwell, Jeffrey Shaara, James Rollins, Wilbur Smith, Octavia Butler, Thomas Harris, Dan Brown, Brad Thor, Freddie Lee Johnson and CS Forrester.
  • I am a husband and a father. I have been married for more than twenty years and my two children both attend The University of South Carolina.
  • I love music and I firmly believe that today's music sucks. Luther Vandross is my favorite artist of all time. I saw him in concert at Radio City Music Hall about 6 weeks before he had the stroke that eventually claimed his life.
  • I absolutely love to barbecue.
  • I like my beef served medium rare.
  • Although I'll eat just about anything once, I don't like eating anything's organs. So as a rule I don't eat anything's giblets....or any other organs for that matter.
  • I like..........no I love the taste of chocolate ice cream.
  • I am a New York Yankees fan.
  • I am a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
  • As far as college football is concerned, I am a fan of the Crimson Tide of The University of Alabama.
  • Although both of my children attend The University of South Carolina, I can't bring myself to wear those ugly colors.......ROLL TIDE!!!
  • While I enjoy peanuts, pecans, pistachios and nuts of all kinds; I never eat them cooked in anything.
  • I was born in California and I've lived in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, New Jersey, New York and now South Carolina.
  • Coffee is the monkey on my back. Gotta have it, I'm downright thirsty for it!!
  • I'm a fervent believer in the death penalty. As far as I'm concerned it ought to be used 20-25 times a day, everyday, in every state in the nation. I believe that anyone that kills another human being or anyone that sexually assaults a child or a senior citizen should be put to death. If we did that, I believe that we'd clean some of the scum out of the prisons and moreover not feed the bastards, like we're doing now.
  • I believe that President Clinton lied........he definitely inhaled and he clearly has much love for the big babes too.
  • I don't like using the word nigger and I really hate to see anyone use it. As a matter of fact, I hate myself for using it in this context.
  • Sometimes I laugh at shit that really isn't or shouldn't be funny. You know, like when an old lady falls down a flight of stairs or when someone gets cold busted or when someone's wig falls off. I know I shouldn't laugh, but I find it funny; so please don't be offended, let that shit go.I only do it because I'm a silly mofo at times...........just let it go.
  • I don't have a problem going to church, unless there's a game on I'm interested in seeing.
  • I absolutely love women and while I don't begrudge a man's right to love a man or a woman's right to love another women; if I lived to be a thousand, I could never understand how one man can look at another man's hairy ass and say he wants some of that..........not that there's anything wrong with that mind you. That being said, I believe that homosexuals should be given the right to marry. I believe that they have just as much right as us heterosexuals to be miserable for the rest of their natural lives.
  • Although I would never want to have a child of mine aborted, I recognize that any fool with genitals in this country can have children........and that's not necessarily a good thing.

Now, please tell me something about yourself that you'd like me to know or that I don't know.

  7. I like it....this bold, abrasive, style you've got goin on. Nice to see an educated man who can get his point across so eloquently. I suppose if I continue reading your rantings I may gather some thought provoking insight from you....thats what it seems like.

  8. That's good to hear denishiaj and I want you to do just that; however, there's nothing you want to dish about yourself?!?

  9. Wow, I feel like I know you for real! And yes, I didn't think that you were tall. Not that you come across short but I dunno it's hard to tell in the online world.

    I am 5' 3", I have chocolate colored skin & an afro.

I love to laugh & make people laugh.

I'm currently battling the bitter love jones & brokeness blues.

I really do want to rap...not as a career but I'd love to drop one fiyah freestyle one day when I'm chillin' with my homeboys.

I'm trying to start reading more.

    ReplyDelete
  10. LoudPen it would be cool to hear you do some freestyle in a VLOG....why not do that and show off some of your skillz.

Now that you left all that good info about yourself, I feel like I know you a little better too.

See, sometimes a little personal information is a good thing; and that was, of course, my intent when writing this blog.

  11. What's up Reggie, I believe you've dropped by my house. I was visiting the Old Black Church and saw your name so, hey, I's here. You do not have enough SPACE for me to do my thang up in here *lol*. I mean, if I start talking about myself, the flood gates would break.

My blog is what one would consider a personal blog, in that, I talk about my experiences in life. I've lived a little so that's a long story, and the saga continues.

I was going to give my opinion on your list, but you don't want me to do that *lol*. I mean, I could start with the Air Force ( been there) Yep, I am a fly boy. I could start with those that are incarcerated (been there, done that). I speak on children in college (mine went to UK). Can we talk about coffee (I grind my own, Starbucks ain't got nothing on me, I'm hooked, gotta have). Women? Please, read my blog, I have looooog stories about that. I did a 3 part series on that one. But I will not tell all my biznezz in yo' house :-)

See, you don't want to get me start *lol*

    ReplyDelete
  12. Reggie, just for you I'm going to do a vlog of me freestyling. Please try not to laugh to hard. I'll let you know when I post it.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Naw Carey, but now I'm going to go to your blog and read to my heart's content.

By the way, thank you for serving!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well, Mr. Reggie...there's probably a bunch of stuff you don't know about me, unless you've been a lurker over at my spot without me knowing LOL! My name is Launa, aka Tha L, aka six-foota, aka L-Boog, aka L-dub. Although there's a bunch I could share, I hate long ass comments, so I'll just say that I love to eat and I grow my own vegetables. And in Vegas, where the summers are like hell and the winters are quite brutal, that's no easy feat. Come around more often...there's so much more to see!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Launa huh?!? My sister's name is Lonna.....that's close, really close huh?!? My family is from Mississippi and Alabama so I'm no stranger to eating home grown food. My maternal grandfather was a farmer and he planted just about anything you could imagine and it wasn't unusual for him to slaughter a pig or goat or cow and barbecue it and feed a slew of us. Home grown food is the best food a man or woman can get.

    Come back Launa.......come back!!!

  16. Reggie, I've only been getting to know you and your blog for the past week or two (found you thru Rippa, I think), so your auto-interview is cool.

The only thing I'd say about your death penalty beliefs is that DNA evidence should be required. There have been cases of folks who were tested and found they were not the killers or rapists.

I get a feel for what people are about by reading their posts over time, not just one or two but about ten before I think I know where they're coming from.

I love language, the tone, the feel, the context... the more syllables a word or phrase has, the more likely some truth is being hidden. One of my favorite late comedians was George Carlin, who hit on this beautifully and influenced me probably before your babies were in diapers.

Although I can speak and write properly, I tend to be plain-spoken and use slang b/c it's what I grew up around, unless I'm writing on a serious political topic. Even then I might spice it up so folks won't fall asleep. Otherwise, my favorite word is probably ain't. Kudos to Mark Twain for that, not the 'hood, lol. He was a man of ordinary people of his times, and a book of his quotes was one of my favorites.

Enough about me. Don't be a stranger; come visit. This weekend I have up Kit's Satire: Ideal Part Time Jobs to give folks a few laughs.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Kit I really like the way you write; so you can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be dropping by your page from time to time.

As far as the death penalty is concerned, I've always been a defender of it. The way I see it, we need to step up our game across the board and use it with wild abandon; and maybe, just maybe, we'll be able to get rid of some of the scumbags our society.......and penal system have been harboring. I do actually have a few concerns about the way it should be applied......but that's a blog for another day.

When I started blogging here a few months back, I wanted to do this blog then, but I figured that no one would read it. I wanted to get a little time under my belt first. Oh and by the way I did come to Blogger because of RiPPa, he and I met while we were blogging on Yahoo 360. He is an excellent blogger!!!

  22. I try not to reference my good old Alabama blacksnake too often RiPPa. After all there's always gonna be some mini micro dick mofo out there to start hating on me.

RiPPa simply put, you're the best blogger that I've ever encountered.
